My Mom and I in Copacabana Beach during Carnival in Rio
My Mom and I in Copacabana Beach during Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. SugarLoaf is in the background.

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and my fascination with stones started at a very early age. Perhaps it was my mother’s  appreciation of this beautiful planet we live in combined with her love of all things hand made that rubbed off on me.

As a small child she would take me to all types of classes from classic oil painting to sewing. Once she gave me my first pair of pliers I really found my calling. At first I worked with vintage beads and non-precious metals.

I always loved classic design, Art Nouveau and Modernism. Once I discovered the wealth of gemstones available as beads I never went back to any other medium. I have worked with gemstone beads for over 16 years. We lived very close to H. Stern in Copacabana and always made a point to stop for some window shopping.

Collecting is also in the family. My favorite cousin is a very well known Antiques dealer in Rio de Janeiro and Paris. His family is wonderful and have always been one of my favorite relatives to visit. Their home is full of beautiful things and he always took the time to tell me all about that gorgeous Art Nouveau lamp, or the bronze they had just acquired for a client. All I had to do was admire it.

Although I attended College with a Major in Architecture and Minor in Arts, all my jewelry knowledge is self-taught, acquired by hands on work and countless books. I took flight with that first set of pliers and didn’t reconsider. As a teenager I started to get serious about my business after getting an order for over 140 necklaces from a very exclusive jewelry and accessories boutique in Rio de Janeiro. That original order sold out in 3 weeks. I knew I was on the right track.

Since then my designs have appeared in several better stores and boutiques in Rio, Recife and New York, California, Philadelphis and the Caribbean. They were even photographed with Vivienne Westwood clothing for the equivalent of Time Magazine in Brazil. I have designed collections for the Philadelphia Art Museum for the Salvador Dali and Frieda Kahlo exhibits.

Currently my “babies” can be found online while others are traveling the world in cruise ship boutiques, appearing in Museum stores and some of the best specialty boutiques from Saint Louis to the Hamptons.

From all this life experience, a love of beauty, art and craftsmanship, Get-Glam was born. It is not about the “glam” of Stars in Hollywood alone, but rather the moment in time we are swept away by the beauty, engaged by the design and intrigued by the creative process of all beautiful things, new and old.

I do hope you enjoy visiting and thank you for taking the time!
